PRESENTATION OF AWARDS IN DIFFERENT FIELDS

The Kadambini Media has instituted several awards in different fields as a mark of recognition given in honour of different achievments.

Nilimarani Sahitya Samman

‘The Kadambini’, one of India’s largest regional magazines with a readership of over thirty lakhs has crafted itself into the imagination of both intellectuals and common folks and has also started India’s first Literary festival from 2004. The Kadambini Literary Festival since its inception has brought thousands of writers, intellectuals, poets, cultural enthusiasts and famous literary personalities to one platform for interaction and deliberation. It is in this festival that ‘The Kadambini’ developed an indigenous idea of ‘Patrika Haat’- a single day display of all magazines published in Odia that makes it a confluence of the entire spectrum of Odia literature. The only aim was to provide a platform for all magazines to showcase themselves and market themselves. ‘The Kadambini’s single ambition has always been to get the immortally rich Odia literature and culture a platform to flaunt its grandiloquent depths.

In this regard the prestigious ‘Niliamarani Sahitya Samman’ has been constituted by Dr. Achyuta Samanta and Dr. Itirani Samanta, in the memory of their great mother Smt. Nilimarani Samanta. Smt. Samanta was an extraordinary woman who persevered severe hardships and poverty to raise seven children single-handedly from abject poverty and offer them the only hope she knew of education. She forced all of her children to get learning in whatever format we can. Her life was a reflection of the incessant struggle that numerous women put forward against prevalent societal norms.

The prize proudly boasts of being the pre-eminent literary award in Odisha since it’s inception in 2019 with a prize money of Five lakh rupees, silver emblem and a citation.

Thus Dr. Achyuta Samanta and Dr. Itirani Samanta will be remembered for the institutionalised development of Odia literature by creating a monthly magazine that is a torchbearer of Odia literature, art and culture at the global podium.
